The vegetarian weight loss diet is something people either love or hate. The staunch vegetarians vehemently believe that the vegetarian weight loss diet is the major key to staying fit and healthy for life. No wonder that a lot of famous celebrities follow the vegetarian diet. Animal lovers who have their personal reasons for staying away from non-vegetarian diet also follow this diet.
Conversely, supporters of the non-vegetarian diet believe that vegetarians are generally weaker than they are because the vegetarian diet lacks the high nutrition available in fish, meat and eggs. Nothing could be further from the truth! It is true that fish, meat and eggs are very nutritious foods in their own right, however, that doesn’t mean that you couldn’t get an equal amount of nutrition from fruits and vegetables!
In this article I will tell you what an ideal vegetarian weight loss diet should be like.
Any Vegetarian or non-vegetarian diet should be rich in all of the following nutrients:
1. Vitamins
2. Iron
3. Zinc
4. Carbohydrates
5. Calcium
6. Protein
Now that we have established which nutrients we need on a daily basis, lets look at the foods in which you can find those nutrients:
Calcium: Broccoli, dairy products, tofu, soy, fruit juice (especially orange juice)
Protein: Tofu, is not only rich in calcium, its also full of protein. Lentils, peas, nuts, seeds, etc. are also very rich in protein content
Iron: Iron is also found in high quantities in rice, cashew nuts, tomato juice, etc.
Zinc: As well as being rich in protein and iron, Tofu is here as well! Its surprising how a single food could be rich in so many different types of nutrients? Whole grains, especially the bran and germ of grains, are also rich in zinc content.
Also, any vegetable available in the form of roots such as radishes, carrots, beets, etc., contains zinc. Leafy vegetables such as lettuce, spinach and cabbage leaves also contain a high content of zinc as well. If you hate potatoes, note that they are rich in zinc too!
Vitamins: Vitamins are available in milk, soy, cereals, etc aswell as many other products.
Carbohydrates: You probably already know that carbohydrates are available in junk and sugary foods but…WAIT, since you cannot have them, eat lots of potatoes instead. Their carbohydrate content is much much lower than those of most junk foods!
Who says that a vegetarian weight loss diet cannot be as nutritious as a non-veg diet? As long as you eat regular, healthy and well-balanced meals, your body will definitely receive the right amount of nutrition it needs! Most importantly, being low on calories, the vegetarian diet won’t make you fat; if anything, it would help you maintain a slim and flat stomach throughout your entire life!
