Weight loss for teenagers is fast becoming the number one priority in todays society as teenage obesity levels become a ‘growing’ menace! One reason behind this is that it’s very difficult to handle and control the lifestyle habits of teenagers. Teenagers always try to live life on their own terms since they believe that they are mature enough to take all the important decisions of their lives. Still, there are a number of ways you can make sure that your teenager is always fit, slim and healthy.
Have you ever taught the difference of healthy and unhealthy foods to your kids? Have you ever taught your kids how to identity those types of foods or ever offered them home cooked meals? Have you ever prevented them from eating junk foods or watching television for hours?
If your answer to all these questions is “no”, I’m sorry to say that you have not really been a good parent. Most parents make their kids eat junk foods because they are not only a cheaper alternative to home cooked meals but also to save them time. Most parents would prefer watching television or gossiping rather than making home cooked meals.
If a child is not made to taste healthy foods right from a very young age or is never taught to identify good and bad foods, it is only natural that they will continue with the unhealthy habits of their childhood right into adolescence and beyond! If one has never eaten anything except junk foods as a child, it is not unnatural that they would develop a certain kind of distaste towards organic foods as they get older. These unhealthy eating habits are one of the primary reasons behind teenage obesity.
Changing a teenager’s eating habit is a lot harder than changing the food habits of a younger child. The only way you can change your kid’s eating habit is by changing YOUR food choices first. When you become proactive at weight loss and fitness, your teenagers would follow suit! What you should be eating is something I will discuss at the end of this article.
Another reason behind obesity is the influence of television. Television not only makes a teenager idle but also influences their mind with those attractive ads on junk and fatty foods. As a parent, it’s your responsibility to make sure that your kids don’t watch television for a long time period. You should always encourage them to indulge in outdoor sports or at least take a walk outside.
As a parent, you should also not allow your kids to buy junk foods nor bring them home yourself. You as the parent should always set the example. When junk foods are available at the end of your street, neither you nor your kids would be able to resist the temptation but for goodness’ sake, it is best to just ignore this temptation and look for a healthy alternative instead.
Your kitchen and refrigerator should always be stocked with organic and healthy foods; that way, you can make sure the whole family eats them more often than junk alternatives. Eating organic foods is one of the best ways to keep your calorie consumption low. This, together with a little physical activity, would do you and your adolescent kids the world of good!
Remember that as parents, we have the choice to teach healthy or unhealthy lifestyle habits to our children. However, you need to teach your kids, especially teenagers, through action instead of words. When you start losing weight as a result of following a healthy lifestyle, your kids will do the same. This is really a great way to fight teenage obesity!

The vegetarian weight loss diet is something people either love or hate. The staunch vegetarians vehemently believe that the vegetarian weight loss diet is the major key to staying fit and healthy for life. No wonder that a lot of famous celebrities follow the vegetarian diet. Animal lovers who have their personal reasons for staying away from non-vegetarian diet also follow this diet.
Conversely, supporters of the non-vegetarian diet believe that vegetarians are generally weaker than they are because the vegetarian diet lacks the high nutrition available in fish, meat and eggs. Nothing could be further from the truth! It is true that fish, meat and eggs are very nutritious foods in their own right, however, that doesn’t mean that you couldn’t get an equal amount of nutrition from fruits and vegetables!
In this article I will tell you what an ideal vegetarian weight loss diet should be like.
Any Vegetarian or non-vegetarian diet should be rich in all of the following nutrients:
1. Vitamins
2. Iron
3. Zinc
4. Carbohydrates
5. Calcium
6. Protein
Now that we have established which nutrients we need on a daily basis, lets look at the foods in which you can find those nutrients:
Calcium: Broccoli, dairy products, tofu, soy, fruit juice (especially orange juice)
Protein: Tofu, is not only rich in calcium, its also full of protein. Lentils, peas, nuts, seeds, etc. are also very rich in protein content
Iron: Iron is also found in high quantities in rice, cashew nuts, tomato juice, etc.
Zinc: As well as being rich in protein and iron, Tofu is here as well! Its surprising how a single food could be rich in so many different types of nutrients? Whole grains, especially the bran and germ of grains, are also rich in zinc content.
Also, any vegetable available in the form of roots such as radishes, carrots, beets, etc., contains zinc. Leafy vegetables such as lettuce, spinach and cabbage leaves also contain a high content of zinc as well. If you hate potatoes, note that they are rich in zinc too!
Vitamins: Vitamins are available in milk, soy, cereals, etc aswell as many other products.
Carbohydrates: You probably already know that carbohydrates are available in junk and sugary foods but…WAIT, since you cannot have them, eat lots of potatoes instead. Their carbohydrate content is much much lower than those of most junk foods!
Who says that a vegetarian weight loss diet cannot be as nutritious as a non-veg diet? As long as you eat regular, healthy and well-balanced meals, your body will definitely receive the right amount of nutrition it needs! Most importantly, being low on calories, the vegetarian diet won’t make you fat; if anything, it would help you maintain a slim and flat stomach throughout your entire life!

Walking for weight loss is a great way to keep fit and lose weight at the same time. If you thought it was difficult to lose weight, maintaining that ‘lost’ weight is even more difficult. So many of my friends were able to lose weight successfully, only to regain it all back after a few weeks. It is not the fault of the diet program they followed. They gained weight for two reasons: they got back to their old lifestyle habits like eating junk food, and they forgot all about exercising!
People have a misconception that once they lose weight successfully, they think that they won’t get it back, no matter what they do! This is simply not the case! Even after you’ve lost weight successfully, you will have to follow the same diet and exercise routine to maintain your body at that weight! I can understand if you don’t want to go back to your monotonous gym routine, but there’s nothing stopping you doing some walking.
Below are three walking tips to help you get started!
1. Consult with your doctor: Before you start walking on a regular basis, I would recommend you visit your doctor first. Your doctor will be able to structure a regular walking schedule for you based on your current health situation. They might also recommend some other activities for you besides walking.
2. Always track your steps: Simply walking without counting your steps is not enough: I would advise that you use a tool called pedometer which actually tracks the amount of steps you walk. They are very useful and relatively inexpensive. A good starting point for beginners is to aim for between 5,000 and 10,000 steps per day, EVERY day. Start slowly and build up as the days and weeks go by. If you remain totally committed to your walking regime you’ll soon see how much better you feel, within days!
3. Wear the right clothes: For walking to be an enjoyable experience, always wear loose-fitting clothes that allow free movement of limbs. Don’t wear anything tight-fitting that makes you feel uncomfortable! Also be sure to put on soft training shoes that make your feet feel comfortable. If you wear the wrong footwear you’ll soon lose interest in walking and have feet full of blisters.
You have been warned!
